Iredell first responders donate thousands to the Red Cross

Howard Hanlon (far left), Red Cross emergency services specialist, accepts a check from Iredell County firefighters and Statesville police.

Remember when we posted pictures from Guns and Hoses, the football game where police and firefighters battled it out on the field “for guts and glory”?

That game raised nearly $8,000 for the Red Cross and Dove House, both nonprofits that serve the Iredell County community.

On Monday, Jan. 23, representatives from the Statesville Police Department and Iredell County Firefighters Association presented the check to our very own Howard Hanlon as well as Ken Wooten, executive director of Dove House, a children’s advocacy center in Statesville.

Both agencies are thrilled with the outcome of the game and look forward to putting the donation to good use in the Iredell community.
