Over the last week, your local Red Cross volunteers have helped 16 families after fires displaced them from their homes.
One man came home on Christmas Day to find his Rowan County home like this:
He told our volunteers it was a “Christmas miracle” he was alive, and thanked the Red Cross for providing him with assistance.
On Dec. 23 in Hickory, a homeless couple’s only shelter – a tent – caught fire and destroyed their few belongings. Our volunteers helped them with assistance for groceries, clothing and shelter.
Other fires in Iredell, Mecklenburg, Burke, Gaston, Lincoln, Cleveland, Stanly and Union counties meant those families had a difficult holiday.
We’re thankful our volunteers and donors made it possible for us to be there to bring them a little relief during such a difficult time.
