On Sunday, Dec. 4, local Red Cross volunteers prepared 120 meals for of the 626 Maintenance Company of the National Guard.

According to the article in the Hickory Daily Record, this was one of very few homecooked meals these service men and women get.

“We’ve been eating MRE’s and Heater Meals due to budget restrictions,” said Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Boyette, referring to the military’s pre-packaged dinners designed for soldiers to eat on the go while in combat zones.
