Second-graders spread some comfort

Boger 2nd grade Comfort Kit project 2011

Second-graders at Boger Elementary School in Cabarrus County requested a speaker from the American Red Cross so they could learn more about our programs and services.

One of our Disaster Action Team members, Carole Bentley, visited them last week for a Red Cross lesson. She taught students about how our volunteers go out to the scene of disasters – like home fires – to help families that have been affected. One of the things we distribute, she told them, are Red Cross comfort kits, which include basic toiletries like tissues, a comb, toothbrush and soap.

The students then built comfort kits from supplies they had collected and put together more than 136 kits for local disaster victims!
