It’s earlier morning and an elderly woman passes away while her family scrambles to pull themselves together. Her son is in an Airforce Base overseas, and needs to get home to them.
It’s the middle of the night and a young woman goes into labor prematurely with her first child. Her husband is across the country serving in the U.S. Army and has no idea.
These are the kinds of emergency communication messages (ECM) that are officially communicated to deployed servicemen and women all over the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by the American Red Cross, Services to Armed Forces. Immediately after an ECM is received, the Red Cross verifies the details of the emergency, then sends the message to the service members commanding officer to grant emergency leave.
Military leaders rely on the American Red Cross to provide a factual, complete, and verified message. Military families rely on the American Red Cross to get the message to their loved one quickly.
